The long way to becoming the dream home for Sarah and Kimo Bertram started on in Sausalito where the house-boat has been envisioned by the creative minds from Robert Nebolon Architects together with general contractor Bart Elmer. The duo came up with the idea of nesting the structure in a boxlike concrete barge that not only protects it from the marine climate but also provides keel-like stability — a much needed feature on water.
The two new cantilevered structures added to the original residence do not alter the street elevation of the home and most would be surprised to find such modern interiors as they step in. Large floor-to-ceiling glass windows accentuate the open living plan and also offer ample ventilation. A spacious courtyard with a refreshing pool lovely deck space a fireplace and lush green surroundings tempts you to spend more time outdoors than inside!
The task of adding a fresh extension to this Victorian house was entrusted to the architects from Jackson Clements Burrows who did an impeccable job of striking the perfect balance between the interiors and the exterior.

A large living space clad in pristine white welcomes you inside even as several levels of private quarters are beautifully tucked away above it. The indoor pool and the lounge area offer an element of surprise and the floating spiral staircase with glass railing brings a sense of magic and excitement to the setting. Large floor-to-ceiling glass windows provide visual connectivity with the world outside. Green spaces and carefully placed plants bring in some natural freshness to the interiors.
Large overhangs are also in place to ensure there is sufficient protection on a really damp Seattle day. An open floor plan sees lines between the living area and the outdoors blurred even as an ergonomic kitchen and dining area anchor the lower level of the house.
The deck is accessible through the master suite of the house. It provides a large and furnished area where the owners of the residence can enjoy countless beautiful sunsets. Next to the sleek pool is a series of ottomans that give you an opportunity to catch your breath in between all the fun! Beautiful woven all-weather armchairs grace the remainder of the deck with a lovely dining set placed in one of the corners.
